I am Anna Aro, a Swedish/Finnish artist performing with contemporary circus, dance, movement and performance. I like incorporating sounds and singing to my performances, as well as a twist to the normality by playing with contrasts, emotions and absurdity.
Circus / Dance
I trained various styles of dance in Stockholm and New York for a couple of years. Later I moved to Barcelona to attend the circus school Rogelio Rivel. After the circus education I have been forming myself as an artist taking different courses and workshops in circus, dance and performance arts around Europe. I specialized in the circus discipline chinese pole and I am also using the techniques of handstands and dance-acro in my performances.
I have been performing in different productions and events, among them in the show “NU” by Ateneu Popular de Nou Barris in Barcelona, with the company Animal Religion in the site specific performance “Chicken Legz” in Japan, and in the show “Union Black” with the dance company Far From the Norm from the UK. At the moment I am working with new projects that you can read about in the section "Projects".
In January 2020 I obtained a Masters degree in Fine Arts, in practical artistic self reflection, at the Stockholm University of the Arts.
Producer / Tour leader
During five years I worked as a circus producer, manager and tour leader and lead several productions in different sizes to which I obtained funds and helped develop from idea to performance.
I have proudly worked for the organization Clowns Without Borders Sweden since 2014 and have performed as an artist in various occasions nationally and internationally, as well as lead tours in Sweden, Myanmar and Greece.
Prior to my performance studies, a did a Bachelor's in Sports and Health Science in Stockholm. I worked in the Institution of Public Health in Sweden and as a health educationist in schools and other organizations in Stockholm. I initiated and lead a number of activities and projects and obtained a grant to create a recurring "summer camp".
